Its arguable that the main character is Ed Bloom, however the film is about the son's (Will Bloom) representation of his fathers personality and true self as he is committed to find out who his father really was before he passes. After depression of his dad stealing his thunder with big story's, Will becomes fed up of his dad and feels that the pair of them are completely unalike and he abandons his father for three years.

After the three years, he finds out his dad is seriously ill and he immediately fly's over to see him which shows me one thing in common is his big heart and commitment. during his dads final days, he explores many places and listens to many story's gathering information on who his dad really was. after disbelief he becomes more satisfied and astonished by the fact his dad was allways truthful just exaggerative and over the top. the story peace's together as towards the end of the film the characters aren't who they seem such as the giant is just a tall guy and the Siamese twins are not Siamese. so its the time of his dads death everything peace's together and his son comes to terms with the true identification of his dad regarding him to the 'Big Fish'.

With now a family of his own with his Pregnant Wife his personality changes and he becomes a more likeable character as on the start he seems grumpy and negative which changes the audience view on him throughout the film.
